Martin Brouillette

Resilience in Color

Under a previous gallery name, this exhibition focused on recent works by Canadian artist Martin Brouillette and explored his relationship with drawing as a coping mechanism through the last bouts of the pandemic.

Here we see his translation of drawing to painting as an expressive exercise in comfort and solace. Martin begins all his works through drawing on his iPad. This is then translated to oil on canvas based on pure visual interpretation. Through this, he is able to tell his stories through jubilant colors and narrative titling. His compositions express not just their gestures, but the strokes and layering begin to venture into new territories of form-making.
