Martin Brouillette's completed these exhibited works between Fall 2021 and early 2022. For Martin, these paintings journal the last period of the pandemic. He was born in 1971 in Montreal where his artistic career begin. He then flourished in London, from 2007 to 2019, and in New York after arriving three years ago. Modern Fine Art is pleased to represent him worldwide.
The exhibited works are oil on canvas, but heavily rely on drawing for inspiration. His drawings, which are acts of resilience, escapism, and excitement, are mainly done on an iPad. He then recreates and interprets the drawings on canvas purely through paint.
His oeuvre focuses not only on forms, but the textures they leave behind. Experimenting with color, he explores composition and the relationships between space and storytelling. The charm of Brouillette's painting lies within the images, but also the stories his titles evoke. His romantic and optimistic personality surfaces, a hopeful naiveté resonating throughout his work, creating a biopic of the artist himself.
Martin sees his works as extensions of himself and a revelatory story of his perceptions; a story of perseverance, resilience and bravery.
