Even though I took this image near dawn, I still had to battle joggers that kept cropping up. I only had ten seconds to shoot while the coast was clear. When I saw a line down the middle of the walkway, I asked the dancer to hit that as her mark. With amazing ability, she did just that. To me, this image represents the reach for excellence.
I'd like to add that this photograph, with the World Trade Center buildings pictured on the left, became important for some of the families that lost loved ones in the 911 attack. One widow told me that this photo would be a lasting and cherished tribute to her late husband.
On a lighter note, a tourist guide contacted me and said that whenever he takes a group to the Brooklyn Bridge, he shows my photograph to inspire them.
