Ray Waterhouse

FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT, EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN POST-IMPRESSIONIST, MODERN AND POST-WAR ART

Ray Waterhouse has over 40 years’ experience in the international art market, and he relocated to New York in 2011. He was awarded a First Class Degree in History of Art and History at University College, London, specializing in European painting 1850-1920 and American art 1940 - 1970. Ray began art dealing three months after graduating and in 1981 became Managing Director of Galerie George in London, dealers in 19th and 20th century paintings. He left to form Waterhouse & Dodd in 1987 as majority owner.

Ray's main roles involve buying secondary market paintings, suggesting Contemporary artists for the gallery program, and advising major clients on purchases and acquisitions through Fine Art Brokers, our art advisory business. He spends at least 2 hours a day evaluating possible purchases for the gallery and for our clients. His search for paintings involves much travel in USA, Europe and the Middle East. He has helped form a number of important collections of 19th and 20th century art in his role as an advisor. He is based in New York but often travels to London where we have an office.
